Golden Days in 2013

Bruce and Laura of Sacramento, CA have a deep passion for restoring and preserving the 1950's era. Years ago they grasped onto the unique style of the 50's, collecting classic pieces at antique shops and flea markets. They put the collection to good use and constructed their loft into a recreation of the 1950's. Not only was this project for fun and enjoyment, but to pass along a tangible piece of history.

Bruce works in construction and Laura is an artist focussing on metal and blacksmithing. Many times when they purchase the vintage pieces, they are in poor condition. This dynamite duo uses their skills to restore and fix the pieces to pristine condition.

Bruce is currently working on restoring this vintage trailer. When he is finished it will look exactly like it did in the 50s. Including the pillows, cups, plates, and glasses.

This last week I had the pleasure of bringing a model to the loft and photographing her in the 50's setting. It was quite exciting as we moved from set to set using original props to get a realistic Americana feel.

Thank you Bruce and Laura. Your gift of sharing the 50's loft is invaluable to me as an artist. I strive to recreate scenes, stories, and characters from the 1950s. This opportunity taught me more about the decade and allowed me to capture realistic moments to paint from in the future.
