A New Direction

Last year was exciting and challenging. I added to my list as a creative entrepreneur and started to participate in art festivals. It was fun to go on the road, set up shop, and meet the folks interested in my work. I sold a lot of work, learned how to quickly assemble and disassemble a canopy, and was a machine in the studio.

Days before the New Year, my husband and I were enjoying a bottle of Pinot Noir as we celebrated our 6 wedding anniversary. We were reminiscing about the year and talking about goals and resolutions for 2016. Maybe it was the wine or maybe my husband is just a genius, but his idea started something new for me in the studio.

They may not look very big, but each painting stretches 37" in length. The staves are the length of a full size wine barrel.

I've always enjoyed painting the California landscape. I frequently go to vineyards to plein air paint, taste the variety of wines offered, and enjoy being outdoors in a beautiful relaxing setting. The organic and geometric elements in the vineyards make designing my paintings a blast. As we sipped our wine that night, AJ suggested I paint landscapes on the wine barrel staves. I instantly loved the idea! Not only would the staves create a unique surface to paint on, but appropriately help illustrate my subject matter.

I'm in the thralls of creating new work but want to share some of the finished pieces with you. Check out my new Gallery Page - Vineyards.
