As a painter and instructor I am always looking for teaching and growing experiences. Inspired by the Daily Painters and Quick Studies groups, I am proposing a 2 hour daily challenge for the month of January. This challenge will take quite a commitment, but its the jump start for the new year that I need to get back on track and I suspect for many of my students too.
Here's what the 2 hour daily challenge is: Work in your studio on your art for 2 hours every day for the month of January. You can spend the time prepping canvas, painting on a large work, speed studies, sketching, planning new work, editing photos references or varnishing canvas'. Anything counts as long as its directly related to your art. You can work in any space, but put on your timer and make sure you log your hours. Save the last 10 min. to document your work for the day and post it to whatever social media page you use. If you don't have social media or don't feel comfortable posting it on your page, then post it on the comment section of this blog. Or do both. To gain some momentum online I am requesting that with every post you also use the hashtags #dailypainter #Sacto2hrchallenge #2hourchallenge #paintingNY2017
It's great if you can commit to everyday, but if you can't then do it as much as possible and keep posting. You'll see growth by the end of the month and I know have a new perspective on your art practice. Want some feedback on the work your doing? Join me Jan. 5, 12, 19 at Patris Studio and Gallery in Sacramento. Class runs from 10-2pm with a new painting lesson each week. You can also bring in your in process pieces to receive feedback and help. Cost is $35 per session. Email Vancannonart@gmail.com for more info and to RSVP.
