I am honored to have two of my pieces selected as finalist in Art Magazine's Annual Competition. This competition will be featured in December 2013 issue. Be sure to purchase your copy or visit their site (click here) to see more.
Many of my pieces are inspired from car shows, sock hops, and other events that celebrate the Americana and the 1950's. Last year I was thrilled to win tickets to the Rock and Rod Festival in Monterey CA. From that event came numerous pieces that can be seen in my 1950's and Figures of the 50's albums. This year they asked if they could use my painting for their poster, program, tickets and other promotional marketing for the event. I was thrilled.
This year I was able to attend Fri. evening. It was great to see the classic cars and enjoy the musical sock hop. There were wonderful people dressed in their best vintage attire and Elvis even made an appearance.
Thanks Monterey Rock and Rod Festival! You've provided yet again an endless supply of photo references for my future paintings. Be sure to check back in a few months to see what I create from them.
Not only did I have a great time looking at the beautiful cars, eating some yummy food and people watching, but I got a lot of amazing photo references to work from.
I was honored that they chose one of my paintings for this years poster and program.
This years event will take place May 17-18, 2013 at Monterey Fairgrounds. I am excited to attend again. I think I may even take my paint box and do some plein air painting this year. Check out the event at: http://www.montereyrockrod.com. I hope to see you there!
