My Story

Abigail VanCannon was born in Davenport, Iowa in 1985. She received her BFA from Iowa State University, becoming proficient in oil painting and metalsmithing. In 2005, she journeyed to Rome, Italy to study in the traditions of Renaissance Masters. The city’s sites and sounds influenced her love of art and history. Later moving to San Francisco, she completed her MFA in figurative painting in 2012. VanCannon lives near Sacramento, California with her husband and 2 blue-heelers, working out of her home studio and teaching local painting classes. She contributes the inspiration for her work to The Creator, her instructors, travels, and events that inspire. She has been featured in December 2013 SouthWestArt Magazine editorial for Artistic Excellence Competition and selected into Art Business News Magazine's "Thirty under 30" 2013 feature. SouthWestArt Magazine named VanCannon one of the 21 Under 31 emerging artists in 2012. Balance Act was selected as a finalist in March 2013 RayMar Art Competition as well as finalist in The Artist Magazine Annual Competition. She has displayed her work in many venues including: 625 Gallery, Cannery Gallery, Palace of Fine Arts - San Francisco CA, Emerald Art Center - Oregon, Iowa State University - IA, Rehfeld's Gallery -Sioux Falls SD, Gallery 21Ten and Patris Gallery - Sacramento CA, Epperson Gallery - Valona, CA.
